Cooking at Holiday Club: Pizza Workshop
At Fun 4 Young People (F4YP), we believe learning to cook a super important life skill, and a fun way to explore new foods!
We had a pizza-making workshop at holiday club, run by teams at Marcello’s Pizzeria and Curly Sisters Catering and Co. Italian chefs Dani and Frankie took our junior YP step-by-step through the whole pizza-making process. From kneading dough to choosing toppings and popping their pizzas in the oven, providing hands-on experience. Not only did they learn how to make a delicious pizza, but they also picked up some key kitchen skills like using utensils, following recipes, and measuring out ingredients. It was a great confidence booster and helped them feel more independent.
We also snuck in some healthy eating lessons! The kids learned about different ingredients and how they fit into a balanced diet. They got to try out different toppings—veggies, proteins —which helped encourage healthier choices and a willingness to try new things.
One of the tutors shared, “YP A was really happy to take part in cooking. She was able to work well and independently throughout the session. She really enjoyed making pizza. Although the session was an independent task, it was nice to see YP A develop some good relationships while taking part in the task.”
At the end of the session, YP got to take home their homemade pizzas to share with their families. One parent said, “My YP has had a really good week, so thank you to each one of you. It’s amazing what you all do for our kids. He’s particularly enjoyed the food-making sessions—some of the best I’ve ever tried!”
Overall, the pizza-making workshop was a huge hit. It was a fantastic way for the YP to learn practical cooking skills, make healthier food choices, and bring their families into the fun. Another tutor commented, “YP B really loved her session, especially engaging well with her peers. She loved making pizza and enjoyed tasting it.”
