SEND Support- YPB

YPB first attended F4YP in Easter 2023. They had tried other holiday clubs but unfortunately, due to their needs, this had not been an enjoyable experience. YPB initially attended our school specific holiday club and had a lovely time. They have since participated in Autumn and Spring after school clubs, have attended our February Half term club and is signing up for Easter and summer term activities.

Having received YPB EHCP, our pastoral team created a support plan for them to access our activities. A significant challenge this YP has is challenges relating to social interactions, they often find building and maintaining positive friendships difficult and so this was taken into consideration for the support they needed.

Our tutor team identified that this young person does best with individual rather than global instructions, this enables them to access activities. They also noticed YPB responds well to a coaching role, which they sometimes adopt in sport when over excited or struggling to focus.

Having built a relationship with YPB and understanding their needs, YPB is becoming more confident within F4YP sessions. Our tutors noted in their most recent holiday club:

“YPB has shown great improvement since they first started, now able to fully participate in sport including team games.”

“I’ve known them to be quite disruptive in sessions in the past and struggle to maintain relationships, but this week, they have been great in sessions. They have shown consideration for others and interacted well with their peers in their group.”

“YPB was key in keeping our drama piece on track and even performed on stage at the end of the week”.

YPB parent/carer said: “I had complete trust in the staff who took care of [YPB] and although this isn't a SEND run holiday scheme, their needs were met regardless.”

Recently YPB received an F4YP praise post card for: “Listening, being kind, giving lots of hugs and having fun!” Its been rewarding for the team to see this YP begin to thrive in our environment, finding new friendships and enjoying F4YP.

YPB said at F4YP they have made good friends, tried new things and grown in confidence. YPB said they like coming because they can play with their friends.

Its been fantastic to see YPB grow in confidence since they first started with F4YP, they are a valued member of the F4YP community and highly regarded by both peers and staff.
